On one hand, it's a disgusting disregard of privacy that would be shocking if it weren't for all the other disgusting abuses of recent years.  On the other hand, the civilian hackers who've been attacking the general public for years have spurred the creation of commercial and open source security tools that offer very serious protection to anyone who uses them, so it's just one more reason to have firewalls, encryption, strong passwords, anti-virus etc.

The only problem here is the "without a warrant" part.

Though the hackers wouldn't drag you to prison for what they find in your computer...

The only problem here is the "without a warrant" part.

In Sweden the pigs can do a physical search without a warrant and "justify" it later...and it was always that way, long before the internet or computers were heard of...

Used to be here that the police had to have suspicion that you were up to no good or something, but they changed that a few years back, can't remember when.

I guess the smart thing to do is to carry a sound recording device and a camera if you can, plus never go out alone. That is if you feel you are the type to be approached by police.

Also agreed. This government's enthusiasm for snooping and surveillance pisses me right off. But who else is there? We're in the grip of an economic collapse, and it's nailed on that the Tories would make things worse for the chumps at the bottom of the ladder in their usual 'punish the poor' manner, to fund tax cuts for the better off.  >:( As an involuntary welfare recipient at the moment the prospect of an impending Conservative government is a pretty uncomfortable thought.

Agreed - have you phoned up your nearest branch of the Labour party and offered to do some door knocking or something for them?

Can't see it'll make any difference - this seat is almost certainly doomed, since Ann Cryer isn't standing for re-election. Her principled stance and willingness to work for the town got her plenty of local support, but sadly Ilkley is in this constituency... if, as seems likely, Labour voters can't be arsed, the suburbs and Ilkley will turn this back into a Tory marginal. Anyway, as a doorknocker I'd be more likely to lose Labour votes - I'm not really a people person.  :-\

The social democrats here stopped being social democrats about 20 years ago. They were never democrats but now they're not even social.

Labour have lost most of their socialism and democracy too, but the Tories were fucking evil. There isn't another credible choice, sadly. :(

People just vote for the social democrats and left party now because the conservatives and "liberals" are worse. The socialists will probably come back to power in September next year.

You don't have to be - really atm its just canvassing and finding out who people are voting for and more importantly to remind them to vote. It really does not require much in the way of social skills.

(but if you don't fancy doing it, there are plenty of other ways of helping out)

Yup - I loathe the system as well.  But at least Labour are actually trying to make a difference for people, even if it does often go to pot (often thanks to the Tories and other vermin).

No parliament party in Sweden wants a real change. If you want real welfare you'll have to vote for the communists. I you want an end to islamization, you'll have to vote for the Nazis.

That's what people with dirty secrets to hide say.

And Wandrew's karmaing you because he's probably a pederast.

I'm all for it if it will catch down the undesirables of society. I flame/troll, buy shit online, posted a few nudes, etc, so what? I don't give a shit.
