Title: Nero Burning Rom - The Alternatives
Post by: Nocturnalist! on October 23, 2008, 09:45:08 AM
I wondered if anybody could suggest good alternative to 'Nero' the CD/DVD burning suite? (I use Nero 7 Premium Reloaded presently... mainly for WAV editing, MP3 making and, of course, burning disks). I'd like to be able to master DVD slide shows/movies (not rip but master), but a bug in Nero is preventing this.

I use Alcohol 120% for burning, but my main use of it is for mounting images on virtual drives.  I don't know if it can do DVD slide shows; never been interested in doing that.

No I don't.

Can't help with DVDs, but I use EAC for all audio manipulations.

It only does audio and the gooey is not intuitive (GUI) so you have to have some knowledge of the processes involved. Nothing touches it for accuracy, though.

Thanks for the replies... however it is Nero Burning Rom and Nero Wave Editor that I have no problems with and only just fall short of worshipping - lol ;) These two items in the suite are TOTALLY glitch free... and really rather excellent. :green:

Its really creating a slide show and Mastering DVDs/Menu creation that it falls down on (In a word 'Nero Vision') because of this stupid 'Third Party Patent Activation' bug that I, and a lot of people have been bitten by... Its not that I have to pay extra, and the bug refuses to activate the free patent and gets caught in a loop... and thus the two items are totally useless... because they won't work without the free patent activation that just won't activate at all. :grrr:

I would help except for the fact that I have not a clue what you are talking about.

(Actually thinking about it I probably would not help. All the best in finding a solution)

Do you mean the pop-up nag?

I have 8 installed, but don't really burn much of anything.

If it's the pop-up nag you are referring to, you could try deleting the nag file.

Look for NeroPatentActivation.exe in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Shared\NL3

Try deleting it or block access to it with your firewall.

Not sure how to help you, but have you tried deleting "NeroPatentActivation.exe"

I have used a cracked version of Nero (taken from a set of restore disks from a friends new computer - version 7, I think it was) and it would not work correctly until I also deleted this file from the install folder and all its traces from the registry.

There is a great deal of info about how to punk Nero on the net.  Have you done a search for your particular set of issues?

Try DeepBurner (http://www.deepburner.com/) instead. Simpler and more to the point.

That was one of the things I tried. It did not permit its deletion. :(

Yeps... I Googled until my fingers were sore. That's how I came to track down the exe... but it would not permit deletion. (Yes, I am the administrator on my PC ;) )

The Deep DVD Movie product looks like the sort of thing I'm after. I might very well give that a shot. Thanks Odeon.

I still say we need a keyboard shortcut, for, "Thanks, Odeon."

I type that a lot!

 :indeed:

(I'll give DeepBurner a look, too.)

You want to make good DVD menus etc? use DVD Maestro (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Maestro) if you can find it. You'll have to compile to an ISO/video_ts (can't remember which one it does) and then use something like ImgBurn to burn it to disc.

For making quick DVD's from avi's and shit I use DVD Flick (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Flick). But it has basic menu templates and nothing fancy, it just works with minimal effort.
