Well I'm making a zelda costume, and I need a metal replacement to make the armour with.. any ideas on a type of mouldable plastic or something? I know wonderflex works but its' really expensive and hard to get.

No I don't have anything helpful to suggest. IN fact this is a very pointless post. I really ought to have thought about things a little more before posting. In fact I ought not have just admitted the pointless nature of this post of mine because if it wasn't a fail before, it certainly is now. So now I have not only made a pointless post but have also made myself look rather silly and inept. I have also show my lack of knowledge about armour (real or fake) and .......to be truthful what a "Link" is.
What did get my attention in this thread was the use of the word "roleplay". I am not saying I am disappointed that you should write a thread on rolepaying and it doesn't suggest anything of sex. Far from me to cast around those type of judgments. Hell it isn't my thread. It is yours and you ought to be able to post what you like and Roleplaying armour and "Links" sounds like a great thing to post on. Forget I mentioned it.
To be honest I have already forgotten. I have no idea at this point in time, it is more stream of consciousness than anything else. My writing energy is thought to reside in the subconscious mind and stream of consciousness writing is supposed to free this. Personally I think it is a load of bullocks.
Sorry I had noticed no-one had posted anything on your thread Fiona and I thought it best to show you some attention. So without any concept of what you were talking about I think I have done admirably. OK it was a little bit shaky at the start but I have kept going and look at the size and quality of this post now. JUst like the Little Engine that could. I am rather proud I stuck it out. Maybe there is something in this stream of consciousness thing after all.
I actually wonder if I answered your question? I can't even remember what the original question was. Something about Rolepaying a "Link" and wanting some armour? I dunno. I guess it isn't important in the scheme of things. Good luck Fiona and all the best with your Armour hunting and hope you meet a nice "Link" in your Roleplaying Fantasies and you can "Link it up together". Sounds romantic. I think deep down you are probably bubbly, happy and good humoured. I wish you all the best.

How much "armor" does a Link costume require, beyond a shield and breastplate?
I have made mock shields and all manner of medieval weaponry out of Styrofoam and wood, painted to look real for photo sets.
You can't really bend Styrofoam, but you can carve it into any shape, even curved if you make a thick enough block, and glue it to plywood for structure with acrylic glue. How durable does the costume need to be?

make your costume out of cheap material, and then spray it with metallic paint - flexible enough to move in, but stiff enough to look vaguely convincing (from a distance. a long distance, mind you).

How big does this armor need to be? You could get a free sample of wonderflex that is 3.75 by 9 inches, but it is about $40 a yard.
Maybe you could make a mold of the armor and pour it in plaster of paris, then paint it with silver paint.
You can get a box of alginate to make the mold with from a hobby store for $10 and a huge box of plaster of paris for $7.

it might save you a lot of bother, and not be that much more expensive, to hire those bits, fiona, if it's only a belt and epaulettes, and the weaponry.
