Olympics opening show
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:17:19 PM »
Turning channels and saw some of the opening ceremonies.  If they didn't sow close ups of the dancers and such I'd swear it was computer generated from just the long shots. Damn how many people do you think they needed to do all this?

Seemed to be on all day. I didn't have the sound on, but it seemed to be on for hours.
Lots of political propaganda bullshit to be broadcast for the next month or so.
I quite enjoy watching some of the events.

I like the Winter Olympics over the Summer Olympics.

The olympics used to mean something, now it's just uber-political and commercial.  Just with added Steroids and other performance enhancers.   ::)

The Olympics are a bore and are generally something I don't give a shit about at all.   My parents were all excited to watch it.   I decided that I would pass, and instead looked at what classes are left for me to register for at UNF because I am a procrastinating idiot.
:P   Internets are super serious.

There are some good events.
Swimming and athletics. I will probably watch some of the boxing, and maybe some tennis.
The cycling is okay too. and of course the triatholon.

I'd never seen an Olympic opening ceremony before the one tonight. So I'm not jaded at all. I was thinking things like how amazing it is that we're still doing the same ceremony the ancient Greeks did. And trying to figure out modern Chinese culture by watching their style of art and mass ritual movement. And wondering at the huge amount of organization that it takes to pull off a tradition like the Olympics.

The politics, the commercials, the drugs and shit, that's just superficial. I don't think they change the essence of it.

Don't you just need a bunch of nude guys, a flaming torch, some judges and an empty field?  Now, pulling off a modern-day mass spectacle is another thing.

The problem is the nude guys have to come from the four corners of the known world.

They're a lot of fun if you can afford tickets to the good events.
George:I'd say I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not. I excel at not giving a shit. Experience has taught me that interest begets expectation, and expectation beget disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest. A equals B equals C Equals A, or whatever. I also don't have a lot of interest in being a good person or a bad person. From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Bad people are punished by society's laws, and good people are punished by Murphy's Law
