I'd never seen an Olympic opening ceremony before the one tonight. So I'm not jaded at all. I was thinking things like how amazing it is that we're still doing the same ceremony the ancient Greeks did. And trying to figure out modern Chinese culture by watching their style of art and mass ritual movement. And wondering at the huge amount of organization that it takes to pull off a tradition like the Olympics.
The politics, the commercials, the drugs and shit, that's just superficial. I don't think they change the essence of it.
