crossbow?  i like crossbows.

I own no weapons - except a few things that could be misused as weapons like cutlery. I'm not opposed to people owning weapons, I just don't happen to have bought anything with that primary use :)

I live in the South of the UK :)

me too.  big place, the south.  :P

Yes. And an often beautiful place to live. My home is sandwiched between two small local nature reserves. Not a posh area, but natural beauty is within a short walking distance whether I turn left or right ;D

My favourite composers are Bernard Herrmann and Jerry Goldsmith.

I've always preferred Jerry Goldsmith myself. He was brilliant.

They were both brilliant. I don't favour one above the other.

Oh, I do love some of Herrmann's work, too, but Goldsmith was fabulous.

Both were cutting edge composers of movie music :green:

Oh yes.

My current Goldsmith favourite is "Criminal Law", btw. Only have it on an LP record, though.

My favourite Goldsmith is 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' simply because of the magnificent range of the music involved. Especially the beautiful V-Ger Cloud theme.

My favourite Herrmann score is 'Vertigo'.

Oh, I love them both. ST-TMP is terrific, definitely one of his best. Have you heard his score for The Last Run, btw? I love that one.

I'm afraid I've never heard that one. I have a lot of Goldsmith Soundtracks, but not that one. I don't think I've even seen the movie, the name doesn't ring a bell. :(

Early 70s George C Scott film. Terrific soundtrack, bad film.

Oh too often the case with Jerry Goldsmith... fantastic music for a movie that didn't deserve it. He never gave a bad movie half measures... a complete professional.

Aye. Not like Horner and his ilk.

Aye. Not like Horner and his ilk.

Horner is preferable to Zimmer :o lol.

Horner started off really well and became known for composing high class scores to low class movies. His score to 'Gorky Park' is a stroke of genius IMHO. My favourite James Horner score is probably 'Krull'. Then Horner seemed to lose his way.

Horner once briefly dated Jerry Goldsmith's daughter BTW, before he found fame (or at least went out with her once). Goldsmith boasted about it apparently (why I do not know) and Horner slighted him claiming not to have heard of him. NB... Of course this is all Chinese whispers like most showbiz gossip and the tale has several variations.

Carrie Goldsmith of course is the most authoritative writer on this matter... 'Dad was talking about composer James Horner, who I’d known in high school through a friend of mine he was dating…Dad loved to exaggerate my one outing with Jamie Horner into boyfriend proportions…'

Oh, I don't know... I do like Thin Red Line. And Crimson Tide, of course.

Krull was all right. But so was "Battle Beyond the Stars". And I liked "Star Trek II", even though he'd already started borrowing from himself at that point.

Cool, I didn't know that.

LOL

Maybe Dad simply thought it was funny. :P

Maybe indeed. The part of the biography that I quoted from seems to have quite a humorous tone. Jamie and James, Jerrald and Jerry - success after name changes.
