I can imagine a black metal arrangement that would make your skin vomit and, using your stalker theme, we could choreograph some creepy stalker moves that would make young girls sew their pants on and create expressions that would never leave their nightmares, then blindside them with this epiphanous interpretation. I think it would be quite a blow to the sappy love song crowd.

I was talking about the A&R man. Writing a song for a record label doesn't always mean you get to sing it.

I know the song well and yes, he wrote and sang much of his own material.  (I also know that Sting has never held much interest for me.) I am glad that he says it's not a love song, for your benefit, but he sang the thing like it was a sappy love song, whether he denies it or not.
