Thinking of a "new" car
« on: August 01, 2008, 05:22:02 PM »
My truck is really bad on gas and is all computers lately I have had my eye on a 1967 Volvo real basic it needs a little work but is only $700.   I like it because I can fix it my self and it comes with a parts car too.  Any experiences with such things I would just use it around town

I love old cars like that... I had a 1960 Land Rover for years, and it was dead easy to work on.

The only problem with the volvo is parts availability and cost.

If you've got the time and cash, I say go for it.

everything else is just borrowed.

Fuck it, we'll do it live.

If the floorpans and frame are solid and the original trim is there I'd probably drag it home. You could part it out for more than $700 I'm sure. With me though, I probably wouldn't be able to part it out, once you start working on them you get "attached", that's why I had 5 VW's in the driveway at one time. The old Volvo's were cool though.

Is it like this?

The problem might be when it your car needs a part that is not on your parts car, then it will be a big pain to find a 1967 Volvo part in a junkyard and it could be expensive to buy.

I knew someone who had an older Volvo and that was ultimately why he got rid of it, because it got too expensive to work on.

If you're using it for work I assume its something like this?

Though Callaways suggestion is cool, always liked that model, but where would you fit your aforementioned coffee cup mountain!

"Callaway's" Volvo is a rare Volvo sports car. Those are hard to get parts to even in Sweden.

Not so rare, 40,000 made,

you'd pick up a decent one for $20k, just checked

I wonder if Roger Moore still has his.
