I think before anybody calls either path courage, they should look at the person they're talking to and figure out what kind of response it will get.

I don't understand. What context? In RL, here, or the originator of this thread?

In general, because the is-suicide-cowardice? question inevitably comes up in most discussions of suicide, and it's a red herring.

Red herring? A deliberately misleading clue?

As in, the suicidal person will rarely take it well... and will almost always misinterpret it. So even if it's true, it's tactless to say.

If I had the balls, I'd kill myself.

We are sad men with no balls. :(

I believe suicide to be an act of cowardice.

I've attempted suicide a few times in my past, and that kind of statement really hurts.

If you think it helps people who feel suicidal, its just one more reason for them to leave this uncaring world. Those people are incapable of of seeing beyond their own problems and it isnt because they want to feel that way.

My intent is misunderstood. Though I suppose in that I have only myself to blame as I made no clarifications.
I believe it takes more courage to continue on even in the face of seemingly insurmountable problems. Even in the face of pain and sorrow.

And no I don't think my opinion would help any person who had suicidal thoughts. But it's just my opinion on it. And I too have had suicidal thoughts.

I dunno, I think when the mind is goign through that much pain, its either suicide or your mind snaps and you go completely bonkers, like people who go catatonic or get multiple personalities etc.

Isn't all of them a form of withdrawing from the problem?

Not all problems are solvable, as much as others would like you to think. You know the type, the type that don't want people to give up hope, even though having hope will not always help.

It takes true grit and determination to hurt the people who love you so much.

Do people seriously think "pffft, coward!" when they remember people who have suicided?

Tell that to the people who loved that person, and you have a big pair o' balls sonny!

Suicided, is that a real word?  I like it, its stream lined compared to always saying "they committed suicide"      .   I like the neatness of it,  "Suicided"...

PS.  I wish..... that I could see the future.  Then a person would truly know if they should suicide or not.
Feeling neutral is very normal.

I don't think it's cowardly. It's mere a Christian idea that suicide be something wrong. The Romans committed suicide when they'd lost a battle or a business deal or something else. Some Japanese still do today.

I have had a couple of members of My family commit suicide My cousin Patrick kill Himself just three years ago.
I believe in this That He did what He did because He did not yet understand Himself.
Just like His own Father did not understand Himself.
There maybe something genetic too.
Or not I do not know.

I do know that I have felt it Myself the urge too.
But I have learned to control it in the end.
