Clapping
« on: May 19, 2008, 07:39:22 PM »
Went to a retirement party for my wife's work tonight and a concert for my daughter this morning.  Well I don't clap for anything got the looks for it too.  I don't understand why I have to and don't like the attitude that I am some cranky guy.  I just don't clap not for anyone period  It bothers me and assaults my sensitive ears they are lucky I didn't wear my ear plugs.  Who else doesn't?

I don't, usually. There is little point to it.

I don't like to clap either. It hurts my hands. I think the reason why people do it because it lets the person know we appreciate them and what they are doing. If we don't clap, then they will think we didn't like them. But people clap nonetheless even though they didn't like the person's speech or someone's performance because they didn't enjoy the music they sung, etc.

There are times when I know it's the polite thing to do, and so I do it. But I don't like how it feels on my palms. :-\

I fake it, always have.

I cup my palms and barely tap my hands together, I just make it look good, I'm normally off from the crowd anyways usually at stuff like this (I normally pick a location next to the door), no one knows the difference if I'm really clapping or not with all the noise anyways.

Yep, thats what I do, lightly clap a couple of times and then put them down!    If it makes me look like mr. unsociable bastard........so be it!   ::)

I gave up faking it. As I get older I care less and less about what other people think

Clapping is so strange.  Why clap and not do something else?  Who started it?

When I still worked in the theatre, I always looked at all the people clapping in unison with each other.

Looks so weird and robotic.

Or maybe that's just me

I clap for most things, it doesn't really bother me. It only gets to me when everyone is clapping for something every 5 mins or so for some 2-3 hour event, then I only clap for things that I think deserve it.

I also do fake clapping. I got invited to a ceremony thing by my old elementary school friend and I went and it was some student thing at a college campus up in Washington in my old hometown. The whole thing was boring but my favorite part was cake and punch.

I thought it was

If you're aspie and you know it flap your hands  :asthing:  :asthing:

I don't like clapping or hearing clapping either. I don't mind if people clap but they shouldn't think less of the people who don't clap.
