To me,  " it " doesn't depend on anything.

It's a fucking telephone, FFS.  I already hate them before they ring.

My friend took my cellphone home with him because he has shit for brains and left it in his pocket.   I bet my parents called this morning, asking me to go to church with them.   Its mother's day, so I probably should have gone to placate my mother.
:P   Internets are super serious.

Yes, I do that, too. But I still have to think through the calls I make, before I make them.

What do you do?

It must be an important job, if you are "on call."

I'm "on call" for mine - I discovered this a few nights ago when they called me at home - and all they wanted to know was what settings were needed to submit renders for one of my shots. They were going to ask me to come back in. I gave them the information they needed instead. Yay for CG crunch times.  ::)

It was not important.

The trouble I have with making a call is when I think of what to say beforehand, then someone unexpected answers the phone or the person I want to speak to is not there. It messes me up and then I can't figure out what to say and "um" "er" happens.

I had a friend in the Navy, who could not make a phone call.  He was always afraid that he'd dial the number wrong, and get a stranger.  So he was always asking me to dial his girlfriends phone number for him (he probably had AS too now taht I think about it)....  So one day, I dialed the wrong number on purpose and handed him the phone.    I don't know if it cured him, but he quit asking ME to dial for him...  hahahaha ah ahhahahahhahahaaaa....
