Wood here rots eventually and has to be replaced. We had all the wood in our roof with the exception of the support beams replaced last year, and the undersides of the eaves lined with PVC panels, plus had it re-tiled at the same time. We had PVC fitted around the windows too when we had them replaced a couple of years ago, since the wooden windowsills are prone to rotting from the condensation we get, though we get a lot less condensation these days with the better quality and more insulating windows. Our garage is all-wood, and I have to paint it with preservative every year to keep it from rotting, and I had to replace a bit that had rotted away from water pooling on the concrete floor. We can't store cans of food in it either, since they rust pretty quickly from condensation that forms on them when the air warms during the day while they're still cold from the night. Do you have termite problems where you are?
