I saw something about plate tectonics on tv not long ago and thought about how California has not had a big earthquake in ages.

The geological term:  "It's not a question of "IF", but a question of "WHEN".

Exactly. I like to hear news of earthquakes and volcanoes, the bigger the better.
I have only ever felt one earthquake, though. It was small, about 4 on the Richter Scale.

What did it stink of?  There's a brewery in Glasgow that makes different areas stink depending on which direction the wind's blowing.  It's not a pleasant yeasty smell or anything; it smells like burnt hair.

My secondary school reeked of shit because there was a sewage plant close by.

They used to spray fertilizer outside my high school,
but it was just ground manure. Whatever California
smelled of was worse. And went on for 100's of miles.
All the same.

The smell of manure isn't that bad but the chemical fertilizers make me gag hard to even walk in that isle at a garden center
