English dubbed anime tend to suck, yes. But Japanese originals, excluding the obviously targeted for little kids like Pokemon and such, can be quite addicting to watch, as there is a lot of creativity in the fight/competitive scenes and some intense scenes that Hollywood movies could never execute so well.

Granted, DragonBall Z isn't really that good compared to other anime series. The reason why it's popular is because it was a pioneer of some sort for later anime series, but it's a boring one to watch by today's standards.
