Religion: apathetic, agnostic, atheist, believer?
Agnostic.
Do you believe in a higher power?
Not in the sense that I think you mean here. I'm sure there are things out there in the universe more powerful than humans. But I've seen no evidence of a diety, and no valid logical proof that one might exist. Nor do I idolize nothingness like Eastern religions do - I consider it equivalent to death-worship. And I don't particularly want blissful union with the source of everything, because my personality would be eradicated in the process and the tradeoff isn't worth it. I don't expect anything after death, though it would be damn cool if death turned out not to be the end of consciousness. I'd be happy to come back as a ghost or a reincarnated creature or be sent to hell.
If not, how do you feel about the people who do believe, whats your general attitude towards them?
Much to my disgust, I hesitate to interact with them. Because I'm never quite sure when I'm trampling their deeply held beliefs. It's been too long since I've been to church, I've lost my sense of what's acceptable and what's not. Especially with Christians, their sense of empathy and caring and concern for one's fellow man is at odds with my rationality. They have too many premises that I don't share. So without the possibility of engaging in meaningful philosophical or ethical communication, I don't really see the point.
