Pregnant man!
« on: April 06, 2008, 07:19:54 AM »
Thomas Beattie lives in Oregon and is married to a woman named Nancy. He's pregnant.

Quote
To our neighbors, my wife, Nancy, and I don’t appear in the least unusual. To those in the quiet Oregon community where we live, we are viewed just as we are -- a happy couple deeply in love. Our desire to work hard, buy our first home, and start a family was nothing out of the ordinary. That is, until we decided that I would carry our child.

I am transgender, legally male, and legally married to Nancy. Unlike those in same-sex marriages, domestic partnerships, or civil unions, Nancy and I are afforded the more than 1,100 federal rights of marriage. Sterilization is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights. Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.

I think it's cool, though I would have called the desire to carry a child a more female thing. Doesn't mean he shouldn't have it though - nobody is 100% male or 100% female at least when gender roles are judged by social standards.

I would call wanting to carry a child more of a female thing as well. But then plenty of women don't have any desire to do that, so I don't see it as being that weird.

No, he's trans. He still has a woman's uterus.

I don't think I want to give birth.  Don't think my genes are decent enough, wouldn't want the kid to be stuck with the problems that I'm experiencing :P  On the other hand, I think I would like to take care of something.  Whether it would be animals or a child.  Might adopt or see if I could persuade a future wife to do the honours.

As for the guy, I think it's a great a thing but I'm just wondering if this won't interefere with the hormones he's been taking.

Men should give birth tbh.  They have it easy.  If sea horses can do it, why not humans?  :zoinks:

No. But not for the pain. I don't want to
ruin my body, and I sure the hell don't want
a spawnling.

I wonder what the effect of the extra testosterone will be on the fetus, particularly if she is female.  I see that Thomas has facial hair, so he must still be taking it.

Good question. I didn't know that taking testosterone had to be a permanent thing for an FTM if he wanted to keep growing facial hair.

Does the blood of a male differ that significantly from the blood of a female?
