my cut might be infected

the redness has spread around two cuts and the area around is also puffier than the other cuts... as far as i can tell. they have scabs. can i put antibiotic cream on them, will that help? even if there's a scab and it might be infected? :'( or should i see a gp? i can't go to an ER, i don't even know where one is and mom would be so mad.

oh and it's been like two days since i cut so... i dunno how long it takes to get infected.

i have no fever as far as i know.

Yeah, I would rinse the cuts with peroxide and then put antibiotic ointment on them twice a day.  Hopefully they'll get better soon.

I hate it that you cut yourself.   :(  Makes me sad.

makes me sad too. actually makes me panicky. i don't want to die. :( i am so afraid of infection.

what is peroxide and do i get it OTC? do i need to rip the scabs off? or do i put it on top of it?

It can be infected even with a scab a doctor would be a good idea.  Watch for red lines radiating from the cut that's real bad.  keep it clean and dry

No!  DON'T rip off the scabs.  You get hydrogen peroxide over the counter.  It's in the first-aid section of the drugstore, where the alcohol, band-aids, etc. are (at least that's where it is here in the US).  Just pour a little peroxide over the cuts twice a day.  You'll see the cuts fizzing - that means that the peroxide is cleaning them out.  It won't really burn or anything - shouldn't hurt.  Then just pat them dry and put antibiotic ointment on them.  You should probably put a band-aid on them, too.

and Parts is right - look out for any red stripes radiating from the cuts.  That means the infection is life-threatening.  That shouldn't happen, but keep an eye out for that just in case.

i clean them with soap, i know that's bad. i also should cover them but i had nothing to cover them with. when i cover them they stick to the cover thing and when i change the cover thing the scabs come off and it starts to bleed. so i usually use nothing anymore.

i thought you weren't supposed to put peroxide in cuts or is that fresh cuts?

Soap is good. I usually throw some  alcohol on (or peroxide)
though. Or just wrap them in a dirty rag. The latter if they're
my cuts, the former, someone else's.

the first aid guides say not to put peroxide or alcohol on cuts. but i once poured vodka on mine and it didn't cause any problems.

I think you shouldn't on really severe ones. Alcohol makes
it keep bleeding. Peroxide eats away shit that's needed
to heal. But, an infection is worse than losing a little extra
blood.

And, you can make a REAL bloody mary. :zoinks:

i dunno what you count as a severe one. mine don't bleed that badly. they don't need pressure applied.

if peroxide eats away shit that's needed to heal... that mean that it eats away stuff that fights infection? i don't care if it takes longer to heal or scars more, i just want to avoid infection.
