Well I can't find the post.  Odeon, no offense, but your an aspie and my sister is on something, therefore I believe you both don't have clue.
My sister has always been a bit nutty even without that something, so as to say less of a clue.

Randy, your life would be a lot easier if you accepted your dx.

In someways it would because I wouldn't be so aware of somethings like I am now.  Its kind of selfish to do so.

No, it's NOT selfish to take care of yourself.

There many trees in the forest. Make sure you are barking up the one with the right squirrels in it.

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.

Or at least a tree with any squirrels in.

Aren't most "officially" DX'ed as PDD-NOS, then with the unofficial AS or HFA or whatever which is the real DX?

Don't know. I'm "officially" dx'd AS.

AS is an official dx in the DSM, but I think before the TR version, the AS criteria were a bit on the vague side so many got PDD-NOS.

PDD-NOS is one of the proper descriptions used for those who do not fit the Dr. Kanner mold for "typical" autism (the way it was explained to me) and Asperger's desciption is another.
People like me are too highly functional for them to reach a diagnosis of "typical" autism, yet the obvious can not be ignored for long. Both kids by my present wife, myself and the older son by another woman are all diagnosed with "atypical austism" (conversationally) or PDD-NOS (officially).
They should be diagnosed as Aspergers or HFA. PDD-NOS is basically a diagnosis they use when they're not sure what the hell you've got.

http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_whatis_PDD#pdd-nos:

Quote
PDD-NOS (299.80 DSM-IV)

The essential features of PDD-NOS are severe and pervasive impairment in the development of reciprocal social interaction or verbal and nonverbal communication skills; and stereotyped behaviors, interests, and activities. The criteria for Autistic Disorder are not met because of late age onset; atypical and/or sub- threshold symptomotology are present. (Page 77-78)

This category should be used when there is a severe and pervasive impairment in the development of reciprocal social interaction or verbal and nonverbal communication skills, or when stereotyped behavior, interests, and activities are present, but the criteria are not met for a specific Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizotypical Personality Disorder, or Avoidant Personality Disorder. For example, this category includes "atypical autism"-- presentations that do not meet the criteria for Autistic Disorder because of late age of onset, atypical symptomatology, or sub-threshold symptomatology, or all of these.

I think what you are officially diagnosed with depends where you are and what for. For me I have an offical DX of PDD-NOS because that is what the government requires in order for me to qualify for disability support pension. The Guy who DX'ed my is one of the top guys around here, so he knows what he is doing. He'll pretty much do anything in order for you to get what you need, re government assistance, schooling etc. He basicly said that the only time he wont bend the truth in order for you to get what you want is when it comes to the court system. Cool guy.

So true. Around here, an autism disorder dx instead of an Asperger dx means a lot more help from the system.

Can we all at least agree that we have 'autism' in some shape or form?

Our Aetna based insurance has no benefits available for Asperger's Syndrome. This may have changed in the three years since we last tried to access the nightmare of their structure, but I doubt it, since it (along with autism) probably still falls under their definition of "mental illness"  and most of that is hardly work related   ---   JAHH!!

Their main issue is to reimburse us for work related injuries and get us back into the workforce.

While you obess, I will be scoring.  I don't like being alone, and internet doesn't comprise a life for me!  You know I can look at you when you talk.  I do have logical thoughts.  I don't get confused like any of you guys do.  Honestly, telling me I had aspergers didn't make me  feel any more incontroll of my life.  Talking about trauma did.   There is no point in review this about a hundred times, I have better ways of distracting myself from certain things out of my controll right now, specifically money.
