My brothers and sisters remember hiding under their desks at school I remember very little of it all.  My grandfather was in charge of civil defense in my own too I have all his booklets

I used to raid old stockpiles. Had one of the water
containers as a trashcan, for quite some time.

Picked up a lot of syringes that way, but never found
them a good home. Water purifier tablets, but we were
afraid to use them.

I collect all things cold war I have a water can too and even dose meters which I just aquired

The last time I raided one was back in the late 90's and everything
good was gone. Gotta be pretty hard to find these days. Always
reminded me of the old Morrow Project game, when we'd haul stuff
out of them. For the computer era people, the closest thing would
be fallout.

dude, parts, can i borrow your geiger? i got this old rolex with uridium or something in the face. i want to see how active it is after almost 40 years.

They only measure higher doses I have yet to get anting to register  I am going to try it on an old military radio I have with radium paint on the dials with the cover off next

Try some low-sodium salt; the potassium-40 in it makes it measurably radioactive.

I don't remember being shown these films at all!  But then again I went to public school in Georgia.  I guess they were just going to let us fry! 

All I remember were constant fire drills and tornado drills.

You might try the nearest smoke detector.  Those things have a small amount of americium in them.

As for Georgia schools' fire and tornado drills...  I did a year and a half in one of Georgia's public schools.  For tornado drills they had everyone go into the hall and do something similar to -and-cover.  All that did was give me a tornado phobia that lasted until years later in another state when a small tornado actually ripped through the front yard before blowing holes in a neighbor's roof.  (My stupid aunt was visiting at the time.  She had an even bigger storm phobia and it was worth it to see her all scared shitless.     Cruel, you might ask?  This is the bitch who tried demonic exorcism on my cousin, we're talking about.)

They used radium on the dials on some up to the 40's 
These are mainly dose meters if it's reading something your in the wrong place I might get a reading off one of my military radios from the 40's that has radium paint on it if I take the meter out of the case

So, their strategy for tornadoes was to gather everyone into the largest and most likely the least structurally sound room, and hence the one most likely to suffer damage in a tornado?  The internal corridors through the school would have been far safer.

Actually, by "halls" I did mean the interior corridors.  (In the US, we often use the word "hall" when we mean "corridor".)

Not that I wouldn't mind making that particular school district look stupid, considering this was the school that sent the tard patrol after me when they noticed me drawing pictures instead of socializing with the other kids.
