Don't people have textured ceilings in the US?  The ceiling in this room has pebble-dash textured paper on it.

Most newer constructions (which is most places here) have popcorn ceilings.

We have popcorn ceilings in most of the rooms of our house and I have never liked it, but I think that it would be a pain in the neck to scrape all of it off.



The bathrooms and laundry room have this orange peel texture, I think.

That's my ceiling; it's textured paper.  We had textured paper on the walls in the hall, but mum got fed up with it and I scraped it off for her.

If it hasn't been painted, it's not difficult to get it off.  You just have to get it damp first.
