We tried testing this out, but
started from the top. Ran out of
cats.

Definitely, next time, we'll start from a lower floor,
with some means of preventing them from escaping.

You're stupid.  At a certain altitude the probability of a cat surviving a fall goes up with height.

It would be far more interesting to drop YOU from the same heights as cats have survived falling from and see if it goes as well for you.

I've conducted several experiments with birds sandwiched between bricks of lead and in all instances beyond about a foot every fall was fatal.

The cat doesn't have wings you know, so to make it fair, I think the bird should be sandwiched between bricks of lead to even things out.
