Nirvana is alternative rock or grunge, not gothic lol.   Dumbass "chavs" shouldn't categorize people in the first place... Chavs are just wiggers anyways (white kids who act like they are ghetto black kids basically from what I understand).   Goths are hilarious as well with their whole playing Vampire the Masquerade nonstop and everything.   I wore lots of black clothing (back when black was over 70% what I wore), but I wasn't confused for a goth.   Must have been the Cannibal Corpse shirt that did it.   Probably because the kids at my school weren't big into cliques like other schools.

Yes, because somehow that's worse than
all other RPG geeks.

Hell, I was really happy about that game, for
a couple of reasons. First it hugely shifted the
style of roleplaying into new grounds - far less
emphasis on combat, and more on 'acting' the
character. Second, it brought a ton of people
into gaming who wouldn't of been there - some
of whom were pretty damned hot.

Thats about what it really did.   It was just another RPG to me.  Anyone with an imagination could have role played like crazy in some home made GURPs ran Vampire/Gothic RPG.   Vampire the Masquerade is just a brand (along with the Werewolf game), nothing special about the system to me to make it stick out other than the gothic theme.

I disagree. The combat system was
so cumbersome, that it made fighting
an unpleasant task. On top of that, a
LOT of effort was made to show what
the designers saw as the means to evoke
the proper mood. I learned a whole new style
of gaming from that.

Sadly, I don't think many of the old style gamers
did. I've sat in on some WW games, and been
about as unimpressed as I was with most RPGers,
in general. Funny that I'd find those who branched
into (or started with, in many cases) board wargames
to be more in tune with the role playing aspect of
RPGs.

Do you know people who made their own custom games out of the underlying system of GURPs or DnD?   My friends just created stuff off of the dice rolls and overall battle system.   We didn't use any of the premade characters, towns, stories, quests, etc.    The roleplaying aspect was totally reliant on whatever the person made as a character.   We had races and such that weren't even available for character creation normally (or even in the game period) as something the player could use.

You can do that nowadays later on as one of the chromatic Dragon Disciples.   I didn't play version 3.0 though, only played when there was 2.0.   We had other shit like Minotaurs and such available for players to roll.

Sure (not that I'd suggest either of
those systems). Hell, I made my own
system out of whole cloth, that blew
away most, as to combat realism.

Moreover, did a bit of pure free form stuff,
without dice rolling, or clear systems.

Still, I
would never have hit upon the package that
they were selling, in terms of how to lay down
a mood, for a particular type of game. Even trying
to translate those lessons to other systems never
worked too well (more a matter that when one is
preparing to run a game, they are brushing up on
the rules, so the flavor of the manuals rubs off).

The closest I came was in a Pendragon game,
where the reason was really a model castle that
I built. That, and lighting, made one session just
burn into everyone's head - to the extent that,
until Vampire, we would just be in awe of that one
night.

Strangely, I found larps to be LESS conducive than
the tabletop version of the WW stuff. May just be that
there were too many people, not well enough trained
to be acting.

As to premade scenarios and such, I see no real problem
with them. They provide a lot of grunt work, in terms of
a detailed background. Having a goodly number of NPC's
set ahead of time is much easier. I'm lazy, so I tend not
to populate my world fully, otherwise. Things don't mesh
as well, nor do ideas ferment the same way.

Runequest was always the best system
for playing new races. Everything was defined
in exactly the same way. Well, some things didn't
have ANY intelligence, so they would make lousy
PC's, but even most animals had some.

The big thing one had to do there was to fill in
the gaps, in the religion. 'Course, once AH got their
hands on it, they totally ruined the game.  :-\

All a matter of the players.

Damn straight they can haha.   That and all sorts of crazy shit if you have real roleplayers and not a bunch of dice rollers.

it's cool I like your accent Tom.

Anywayd for a majority of Aspies those facts can be true but I listen to music! I like fashion in some sort of sence
I'm not gonna walk around dressed like Napoleon Dynamite. I just wear my Beatles shirts, zip up sweaters, jeans and a touqe to cover my messy hair.
i make sure my clothes are up to date but like other girls I never do my hair or wear any make up.

it did take me a while to not take things literally but I still do. When I hear "He broke a record!" i have a little movie in my head of someone actually breaking a vinyl or "Your on the ball!" I can't get the image out of my head of someone balencing on a ball.
Park.
