Interesting lies
« on: January 31, 2008, 02:17:31 AM »
My first gf had accidentally dropped
a housemate's aquarium. Made a terrible
mess. He was yelling at her, and she came
up with this fib that her sister had just died.
Later, as details were asked, it came out that
'twas her twin sister (her actual one called, or
something, setting some questions in motion).
She never told the people she was living with
(with whom she was fairly good friends). Indeed,
she expanded the story, when I was asking her about
it, to include sex with her twin, as well as playing tricks
on one another's boy friends, by swapping.

Eventually, I saw some discontinuities, and was able
to get the whole truth out of her. What makes people
lie like this?

It's because they are weak.

They lie and then the lie becomes so big and then they lie so much that they end up believing themselves and adding on to the story.

I don't lie much. Hardly ever if I can help it.

Liars are lame, I know some terrible liars and the trust is just zilch.

I try not to lie. And sometimes I have to try to be diplomatic with the truth. Which is not my strong point.

I have a funny kind of admiration and respect for people who are clever, witty, subtle and manipulative.
I have no great aptitude for any of these traits.
I tend to be blunt. My sarcasm and wit is not very refined.
My avatar is of Al Swearegen of "Deadwood". He is an absolute manipulating prick and degenerate. He is my hero.  ;D
I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

I tell the truth mostly because I am such a horrible liar.

I don't know why, but some people are just pathological liars.

Maybe she is one of them.  I think that my parents' former next door neighbor is one, too.  She would tell the most unbelievable lies too, but she would never admit the truth.  Her husband said that she "exaggerates."  For example she told me that she and her husband had flown in an airplane to the top of Mount McKinley, that the pilot landed the plane and they got out and walked around up there.  Even I'm not that gullible.  Besides the fact that it is impossible, her husband got altitude sickness when they visited me, so there's no way he could have survived 20,000 feet at that latitude without oxygen.

That one wasn't a typo, actually.

A 20,000 foot tall mountain at the equator would have a lot more air at the top than one at Alaska's latitude.
