So the numbers tattooed on my old neighbors arm when she was a child was just a kindly way of keeping track of her in case she got lost at the camp?
They were just a method of identification, very similar to the use of back numbers in prisons.
Just some fun arranged by Hitler-Jugend for the little ones. Notice how none of the master race ever had to put up with a little tattoo?
Bullshit. Every concentration camp inmate had a tattoo with their ID number. This includes those who were there for being Jewish, those who were there for political reasons or those who were there for behavior regarded as immoral or antisocial (eg. homosexuals).
I don't even think there was a war come to think of it.
There was a war, no doubt about that. Hitler can't be held fully responsible for that war, however. At least part of the blame is on allied nations and especially England (which signed a mutual assistance pact with Poland about a week before the German invasion of Poland to use as a legal excuse for declaring war on Germany - as the largest and most ruthless colonial power in the world, England certainly had no moral authority to criticise Germany for using a military invasion to solve an internal German-Polish conflict).
