I did a camp, where I did
tinsmithing (among other
trades). It would be fun
to work in something like
that though.

They had some tradesmen
at the fort in Toronto.
Niagara didn't. Just soldiers.

You'd get tin poisoning and develop tinnitus.

Tin isn't particularly poisonous more the problem would be the lead in the solder.  None of the earlier trades where really that safe most industrial work today is only safer because of the precautions taken and safety equipment

Probably safer than working in a parking garage
or toll booth.

Bet the old timers had a high incidence of asbestoses related problems from the older brake pads and shoes not to mention the fumes

You could get tinnitus from lead poisoning too, but it wouldn't be a pun then.

Leaditus isn't a real condition, but tinnitus is, and incidentally can be caused by heavy metal poisoning.

Well, metal's gone downhill,
since the early 80's, so I'm
probably safe.

With all the lead soldiers and stuff I made as a kid and the fact I remember playing with mercury with my bare hands I'm surprised I never got it

I knew a minis gamer,
who's job was testing for
lead content. His numbers were
elevated, but no more so than
expected, for his job. He actually
gave testimony as to the safety of
lead figures. Still, they dropped the
legal content. The thing is, the companies
that made them, didn't really mind - they
could charge more anyhow.

I have tinnitus.  I hope I didn't get it from playing with mercury or lead.  I always assumed that it must have been the OD on aspirin when I was little.
