I don't get why they don't either ban PE or make it optional.  It accomplishes nothing.

Helped me a LOT. Well, the proposed solution
to my missing it all the time did. 

I was told that I could run a mile, for every
class that I missed, and could do these DURING
PE. Got me into good shape, and kept me away from
the lame ass shit that they normally had us doing.

They let me do that, too.  I ran through every gym class for two years!  I sucked so badly at team sports that the other girls were saying "yes, please let her run instead of screwing up our games!"  I felt like a tool running around the indoor basketball court in the wintertime, but at least I got in much better shape than anyone else.   

That sounds fukin brilliant.  I would have loved to run during PE.  I like jogging and cross country running and it would have been much healthier than stumbling around feeling embaressed and guilty while the rest of my team avoided passing the ball to me.

Soccer/football wasn't bad though. You could just run and nobody would notice you never got close to the ball.

I used to HATE the team sports.
There was always the worry.
I think being female might
have been easier. Because,
there were female jocks, and

But almost all of the males were SO
much better at most of the stuff.

Yeah, aside from running, my real dreams in gym were for archery, fencing, wrestling, martial arts. Didn't happen. 

They did take us rock climbing once, which was fucking awesome.

Did you play sports outside of school? I think that was part of it - kids would get together with their friends and get good at stuff. Those who didn't have friends had a problem. Because at the unusual stuff, where nobody had practised it before, I could hold my own. It was traditional sports, especially the skill-related bits like shooting basketball hoops or scoring goals, that screwed me over.

I played little league (where I usually

tremendous reflexes and a good, if
quirky arm). Also did some football,
but only 3 on 3 type. I was evasive
enough that I could usually get around
everyone.
