Is making an abacus counterproductive?

I have always thought that for your first car you should get a heap of junk. Most people end up trashing their first cars. I did with mine.

Fences, brick walls, rubbish bins, poles, etc. Thankfully I learnt with that car and haven't done anything like that in a long time.
