New cars for Xmas?
« on: December 18, 2007, 04:56:41 PM »
Who the hell are these adds aimed at you know the get a new Lexus or BMW for Xmas who has that kind of money to throw around.  Besides if I was to get a new car I want what I want not what someone else thinks I do.  The adds are always on too how many can they really sell or do they put them on to make everyone who can't afford it feel like shit?

I think those are aimed at people who don't mind being up to their eyeballs in debt.

Yeah that's what I do. And the best, 'worth watching' commercials make it to the net anyway on Youtube or other places.

I think often the people these ads are aimed at is those who are looking to buy themselves the cars. It may well be that some 16yr brat gets a new lexus convertible but I don't think that is as prevalent.

I don't understand it making people feel like shit either. Perhaps I am just biased because of my vehicular tastes, and someone trying to woo me with a stock lexus IS350 or BMW 3 series may as well stand on a hill and piss in the wind.

I thought that the major one was that you had
to pay, to do so?

Um..Who the hell has to PAY for Television?? Those unlucky British bastards. The only TV we have to pay for in Australia is PayTV, and it too is full of friggen ads... Paradoxically the only channel of all the television available to not have any advertisements is the government funded one (which is nearly almost always critical of the government, god I love free speech)

Kinda like that here,
though the govt cracked
down on PBS funding.

CSPAN and such are free too,
but they seldom do much editorializing.

I am way to rough on cars to ever get one of the luxury type.  The making people feel like shit goes more to feeling that you could never afford anything close to what they offer and anything else is nothing or being cheap

you have to pay a tv licence, and then you can watch as much tv as you want. then there's cable which we pay for. but i believe there are less ads than on american tv. BBC doesn't have any except between different shows, which is excrutiating (<--how the hell do i spell that word?)  when you have to pee badlyy and are watching Heroes.

It's called "affluenza". If people have already found happiness, then companies would do their best to tarnish it for the sake of profit.

Rampant consumerism is prevalent during this time of year.   Since everyone is out spending tons of money, they might as well try to get them to buy a car too.  It isn't like we really NEED most of the shit we buy this time of year as gifts.
:P   Internets are super serious.

I always thought that was really bizarre having to pay for the privilege of receiving the signals that travel though the air
