Black Friday
« on: November 26, 2007, 07:17:33 PM »
I know I am a little late for this post but I've been busy and finally remembered to make this post.

Anyone else ever gone out and shopped after Thanksgiving? I heard it's very crowded and people are very rude and they take things out of other people's carts. I've never done it myself because I was always working or I didn't have any spending money. Plus I don't like getting up early. I could have gone this Friday and Saturday but I didn't feel comfortable driving and figured "maybe next year." I have known people who were NTs and they avoided Black Fridays because they hated them, my parents are the same way so maybe that's why they never took my brother's and I shopping on those days when I was a kid.

I was almost stupid enough to go down to the mall and look for work. But I have no money for shopping, unfortunately.

One thing people do not do is account for what their time is worth.  Personally I would rather pay full price for something and get in and out  than go to crowded stores and wait inline for hours dealing with crazy people.  I consider my time valuable and will be sending you all bills this coming month on the fifteenth ;D

I don't like consumerism. I see it and people's weakness for, but I'm glad I can see beyond it.

For Xmas I will buy Fair Trade and in off licences mainly. With one or two exceptions.

I know people who swear by it.
Indeed, presuming that they wanted
to buy the stuff anyhow, it probably IS
worth the time and effort.

Goodwill doesn't run such a sale though.

Too cold and rainy for that,
this time of year here.

My favorite trash place
was an office furniture
warehouse, right around
the corner from me. One of
my regrets (oh so many now)
about moving from where I was,
was losing out on a regular supply of
great office furniture. Well, slightly damaged -
but a lot of it was easily repairable.

I worked Black Friday, starting at two AM.

It was amazing. I was super stressed at first, but our store had a plan to deal with the crowd and it worked, very well. We served many many people in the first eight or ten hours.

It's the sales that get people to wait in line in the snow. We had computers, including a monitor, for two hundred bucks (eMachines), thirty two inch LCD, HDTVs for four hundred bucks, a fifty inch plasma HDTV for nine hundred bucks, a three hundred dollar laptop, dozens of new DVDs for less than five bucks and box sets of television programs for less than half price.....

:hair:

... still, I agree with Parts. I would rather pay more or not even have the damn stuff than fight the crowds. Overall, it turned OK for me. I came home a space cadet, though and my wife barely recognized me.

I went ont eh day but I didn't get up for doorbusters; my mom and I got to the mall around noon or so and it wasn't too too bad.

I'm not sure if malls do Black Fridays too but when I went to work on Friday, I always go through the mall as a shortcut  since the building is square shaped, and boy it was packed. I figured it had to due with Black Friday. It was also packed again the next day.

Back when I lived in Montana, I worked at a thrift store and I sometimes took stuff out of their dumpster they tossed out. They were always throwing away good things. One time I found a belt that matched my shirt, found a pair of pants that said Bum Equipment on it so it went with my white Bum Equipment shirt, found a Pickachu stuffed animal, I dugged out others but can't remember what they are. I have been told by the boss there not to do it because sometimes there is glass in it and she didn't want me to cut myself. She also told me to never encourage shoppers to dig in it for free stuff because of glass and they can sue them if they got hurt.
