I think there's a form of intelligence related to self evaluation and improvement. It hasn't really been acknowledged in any AS literature, but there's no evidence to show that aspies have any less of it than the average person (who has almost none of it; people generally suck at controlling their lives). Asperger's is a network of predilections and some genetic blind spots, but mostly predilections that become more and less intense at different points. I have a suspicion that people who break through those tendencies aren't the people who are represented to us as having Asperger Syndrome. Sort of like how people always want Schizophrenics to think that they are more than one person. AS literature is quite pessimistic in that sense IMO.
I had a LOT more AS signs as a kid than now. There are some social milestones that I haven't quite reached, but I'm aware of some other problems I have that have contributed.
