I just realized that I haven't had a good pad thai in years.
Even in Thai restaurants in Sydney, which are often very good, the pad thai tends to be very bland.
There was a pad thai place in Sukhumvit Soi 22 in Bangkok that usually had a queue out the front, of Thai people and expats, it was that good. When we lived near there it was one of my regular stops on my street-food-gathering expeditions. As it was an actual shop and not just a street cart it was relatively expensive, like $1.50.
