Many people call TheoK Lit because he originally joined here with the name Litigious, which was shortened to Lit.

I don't know an answer to the second part of your question.  People tend to take me more seriously than I sometimes mean for them to as well, but in my case, I think that it is the way that I write.

Rarely use them, but sometimes the things I say can have multiple meanings or be taken different ways. I like it that way, and smileys would mess it up.
