Yesterday I drove 90 minutes to Annapolis to see Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3, which includes Peter Buck from R.E.M. The show was at the Ram's Head Tavern, a small venue with restaraunt-style seating. Our table was off the corner of the stage.
Before I get into that, I need to talk about my arrival into Annapolis, which was my first ever trip there. My friend was coming from Baltimore and was running late, so I drove around town a bit and saw the Naval Academy and the boardwalk. I ended up out by some small college where I found free 9-hour parallel parking, so I figured what the hay! I pulled over and parked, closed up the windows and the moonroof, which requires the key in the ignition, and proceeded to get out when I thought it was clear. It didn't stay clear for long, so I rushed to get out and get my door closed again so it would not get torn off by oncoming traffic. In doing so, I let go of the key in the ignition and had apparently hit the lock out of habit, even though I have remote keyless entry, so I almost never manually lock this car. Sure enough, the door latched and I had not unlocked the passenger side and all windows had closed shut. It was 45 minutes to show time and I was locked out of my car with the radio playing and no idea exactly where I was in relation to the venue. I called AAA and after a short hold they got someone on their way, arriving just as my friend did. This guy knew what he was doing and got the car open in less than a minute. As it turned out, we were only a few blocks from the venue and made it with time to spare.
The show was awesome. Robyn Hitchcock is hilarious between songs making up bullshit about the meanings of the songs, some really off-the-wall stuff. Good times!
