Waggy's huffing a mouse at the moment.  Her eyesight and hearing aren't good enough for her to notice it when it scurries from one hiding place to another unless it passes right under her nose, so she relies on her sense of smell to find where it's hiding and then sticks her nose into whatever crack or crevice she can find to get it as close to the mouse as possible and deeply inhales the mouse-scent over and over again.  She only very rarely attempts to dig or move obstacles out of the way to get at a mouse, and the mice aren't in much danger with her hunting them.  I left out some nuts and oat flakes for the mouse to eat once Waggy stops bothering it.

Is Waggy elderly then? (Cute name, by the way. )

No, she's 3 and a half, but eyesight and hearing weren't priorities in her selective breeding.  She's a cocker spaniel that was bred to be a family pet; she's cuddly and affectionate, loves children, tires easily and sleeps for most of the day, doesn't bark much, isn't bothered by fireworks, doesn't chew the furniture or dig up the garden and generally excels in the family pet niche.  Cocker spaniels that are closer to working stock can run rings around her, but she seems quite content with the way she is.

She does sound content. I send her a hug.  :)

What color is Waggy?  Prince Albert had one as a teenager.  She was the deep reddish gold color and they named her Copper.

Dennys has some cranberry orange pancakes that I will hopefully get to try tomorrow for free.  I answered a survey about the last visit and I get a free GrandSlam breakfast.
