I discovered that I could get axolotl larvae to eat bits of yolk from a hard-boiled egg by whisking the yolk into a paste and adding it to their tanks along with microworms.  The worms form a writhing carpet beneath the yolk particles and jiggle them around, which stimulates the axolotl's feeding behaviour.  Egg yolk is much more nutritious than microworms, and being able to feed them yolk will reduce the number of live-food cultures I need to look after.

The largest of my axolotls has developed stubby little front legs and is starting to actively hunt.  I watched it eat a fruit fly larva tonight, which was just barely small enough to fit in it's stomach and left it with a big bulge in it's side, with the larva visible through the translucent skin and stomach wall.  It seems very curious about the rest of the fruit fly larvae in it's tank now that it's figured out that they're edible.
