The drawbacks of speed are well outweighed by the benefits, especially to the addicted.  It is a damn good thing there is so much fear surrounding it, because being on it is SO much fun that the drawbacks are pretty much worth it.  And if people weren't so afraid of it, a huge percentage of the population would use it, get addicted and probably die.
