If they didn't identify themselves first then it's 100% certain that it was a telemarketer.  And most likely a political telemarketer.  You were probably being set up to hear some poll/survey or attack ad.

Uhm, that's very true, but it's not really like that in my case. I was really nervous after fielding an 0700 hours cell phone call from my supervisor this morning.

It may tun out OK, since several people in our district (shit! thinking of the multi-level management schemes is adding acrophobia to my vertigo) have taken me seriously and are at least talking about how much we (our merchandising department) actually do for the company's bottom line. I may not get a raise, but someone probably will.
