IMO its when children blame themselves subconsciously for the divorce that it becomes a real problem.   Two people who have never had kids together getting divorced is different than a couple getting divorced while their children are in their formative years.    Its what divorce can do to kids is what bothers me.   When they are older they understand better and do not blame themselves being born for their parents' divorce (I have heard that before several times when I was a kid from friends). 

That and when a marriage ends in death you don't lose half of your money har har.
