It doesn't matter here, but it could elsewhere, as "fluffalizer" is becoming my new main online name.

The name "fluffalizer" is and will be increasingly visible in some (semi, as of now) professional work of mine. That's the issue. It's the name of my sourceforge account, for example.

You are in no way embarrasing. Nor is anything else, for that matter. You, however, hardly make anything associated with you look professional, which as of now is completely irrelevant, but in the future might not be.

Neither do I have to, as of now. Which is why it is not relevant as of yet.

But as for "selling your soul", that, to some degree, is how you become successful. No way around it. If I end up starting my own software company at some point in the future, I'll be able to minimize it, though, by largely going my own way.

If you start your own software company, it most likely won't matter what you wrote on an internet forum several years ago.

In the long term, it will be pretty much irrelevant, yes. In the shorter term, I'll very likely have to work for other companies first. There is a quickly growing trend of employers (especially in IT) searching the 'net for candidates and excluding them if they don't look respectable enough.

But I have several years of studying in front of me. Perhaps how things look now (and this is one of a few potential stains on my net "image") won't matter by then. I'll probably be near my mid-twenties once I'm finally done with all education.

Though I'll probably do some work before then.
