I wonder what Dirtdawg's project is
Have I not mentioned? Sorry.
My inspiration:
The pic is hot if you want to see more. I will eventually have the full range speaker set you see in the pic, but mine are not built together, since I want to be able to "align" them acoustically. Right now I'm finishing up the large horn in the middle, only I'm not using exotic woods. Mine will be poplar and oak, which is available inexpensively, locally. Also my horn drivers are capable of wider range than the ones he is using and so they are larger to reach a lower frequency. The top horns will also be smaller to, more fully, take advantage of my extended range upper drivers.
His beautiful mirrored bird's eye maple, walnut, and Chilean burl versions might be fancier, but my oak and poplar version will sound better. Mine will also be oil finish, NOT polyurethane, which I despise the sound of. Poly is the bane of sensitive ears, where oil lets the wood do the work. I'm building one set and do not have to compromise for cost.
I'm hoping to be using them by sometime in the summer. At this point the Wife Acceptance Factor remains high.
Another view of the part that requires so much sanding.
