Try not to take it too personally. My understanding of people who leave their past behind is that they really want to leave behind their old selves;
 it isn't necessarily a slap at the old friends, more at themselves.

ie i think i can be too self centred and maybe that was what i did wrong with Bint. that's something i wanna change, and if i am, then it's something that would ruin other friendships too. unless i just found someone more obsessed with me than i am myself 

btw do you (or anyone reading this) think aspies can be more self-centred than other people? or is it not an "aspie thing"?

Don't think aspies are more self-centered on average. But, it may be more visible in aspies. We just miss the skills to hide it behind the socialising skills.

If you want to change, because you think it will make you more you and a better you, that's a good goal.
But do it for you.
All kinds of people may come and disappear in your life. The one you have to live with your whole life is you.
It is not selfish to focus on having to live with you, because you have to live with how you live with other people too.

And being a bit forgiving about mistakes in the past will help. And have a mild laugh now and then, when things have passed. Doesn't work for the actual things. But it sure makes the past easier to live with. It's not fair judging your own past as if you had the knowledge you have now. You simply hadn't.

Nobody ever gets a clean slate, Soph. Some do their best to get it but it doesn't work that way. Once you have a history you can't undo it. And it's a good thing, mostly, because that's what defines us. Sure, some things we fuck up but that's what we're supposed to learn from, not forget, because we'll only do the mistakes again.

Now, that doesn't mean Bint will return. I just think she will cos I doubt she'll change all that much.
