Well, I came here to post that what I am thinking right now is why the fuck does my daughter want me to help her cook banana bread right now, when I can't be assed.

Then, I think, next week, meh, I could be dead, better help with the banana bread so she has a nice memory of me being a helpful mother.
Sometimes, responsible parenting sucks :P

As a secondary source of what am I thinking...when I clicked into the thread, I see Graelwyn mentioned above....I'm thinking WTF is she doing being discussed in this thread...but thinking I will get back to it after the responsible banana bread making participation!

 :green:

With my daughter, it has been pumpkin bread she has been wanting to bake lately, but from a mix which we stocked up on since it was a seasonal item at Costco.  She has gotten good at finding the ingredients and the measuring cups and mixing it, but I'm still a little afraid to let her put it into the hot oven and take it out unless I'm right there with her.

Your daughter is a little younger than mine. Mine is nearly 18, but a perennial child....she doesn't want to grow up, but at the moment she is open to learning life skills like cooking, so I try to encourage it.

My other two children were measuring and mixing by at least 18 months....I love cooking and have always encouraged them to particpate (on my terms!)

But the youngest has only just shown interest. She's just the baby and never much wanted to learn anything that Mummy could do for her instead :)

Can you blame them? I know I wouldn't, not with my cooking skills.

I find cooking (by myself) very relaxing for a number of reasons.

My youngest never liked it, but a few accomplishments, her own job, budgeting and buying her own food, has motivated her to be a litle bit more independant.

Can you blame them? I know I wouldn't, not with my cooking skills.

Hey, I love cooking, but if someone else is going to cook, I'm open to that too. Although I will usually stick my nose in 'cos I think I can do things better. I can be an annoying little shit / control freak in the kitchen.

Well, not just in the kitchen, really!

I have to chase everybody out of the kitchen when I'm working in there. Otherwise I get distracted and start spilling things, burning them, cutting myself, etc. I try to compensate for this unsociability by bringing bits of this and that (cut-up vegies and so on) into the loungeroom as appetisers for the hungry troops.

Wondering why formulating thoughts into words has been so much more of a chore the few days.
