They dug up the street, half a block away, where the "manhole" is located. Instead of finishing the woork in the rain, they decided to put a huge metal plate over the hole in the road.
Every time a car drives over the metal plate ... KERASH _ KERWHAMM!, then the next car KERASH _ KERWHAMM! until I am now about ready to crawl out of my skin. They did this yesterday and I fully expected that, since they started on Saturday - it was urgent and it would be done soon. No such luck!

It is still unfinished and every FUCKING time a car drives west on this street ... KERASH _ KERWHAMM!

I would not really think of this worth complaining about, excet that my "quiet little street" has turned into a severe rat run, with traffic at all hours! This has been going on nonstop since yeasterday morning. I was at workm then, but my poor kids have been here for every car which passed!!!   !!!!!

They have totally lost it at this point. I am near the same!!





I want to think of something else, though!

I forgot to mention that the hole is about twenty feet deep and six feet by six feet or so. The metal plate is about twelve feet square and an inch thick, with reinforcing ribs welded into the underside.

I saw them moving it back into place this afternoon, because it had shifted during the twenty odd hours since they put it into place.

The fucking thing makes a HELL of a lot of noise!

I would be fine with that! It would stop the fucking noise for a while!

I actually saw that happen once. A car was following too close to another in heavy traffic, downtown San Antonio. Everyone always raced to the next stop light. One guy happened to slamm on his brakes, too hard while he was traveling over a similar big metal thing covering a much larger, but more shallow, hole. The car's tires gripped the metal plate and scooted it forward, in his panic stop, enough to expose the enormous hole. The whole drivers side rear quarterpanel disappeared into the whole and the rush hour traffic was fucked for a while. Thanks goodness I was only crossing that street!

This hole is only about six feet wide, though. It would only claim a single tire. I would still love it!
