Air guitar
« on: September 18, 2007, 05:56:32 PM »
Wonder if some do this, instead of flapping?

I don't, but I could see the motions being
less 'weird'.

Used to pretend to pitch a baseball though.
Knew one guy (much later) who still did this.
Thought 'twas amazing for someone in their
mid-twenties to be still doing that - something
that I gave up in my early teens.

I'd never thought of it that way until your observation just now.

I find myself going through my old fencing moves from time to time.  Never gave it much thought.  Now I wonder....

Geeze, I often used to practice with
my swords. 'Specially to music. Used to
flap to music too.

I'm just wondering.

So, do you get vivid scenes
when doing these things?

With fencing, only if I'm actually wielding a sword.  With music, depends on the song and the memories attached.  Some I just enjoy the music and it makes it more immersive.  The songs with strong emotions attached will recreate the emotions and often the scenes that generated them.

Hmm...I almost always get some sort of
visuals with anything close to stimming.

Like walking with the wind, my fingers
twitch like mad, and I picture blood
running down my face, or the ocean
splashing against me.

Strongest comes from 'drumming' which
is really fast flapping. Used to do it a LOT,
but less now. It's like watching a movie.
I control the storyline, sort of, but it's
really vivid.

Masturbation is similar, but always sexual
imagery.

Sounds like you just have a more vivid imagination than I do.  Or maybe it's some issue of "severity" (quoted as I mean no negative implications in using the word).

At any rate, you have pointed out something in myself that I'd never really given any thought to.  Thank you.  Of course, now I'm going to become neurotic about it, but that's hardly your fault.  :D

I'm not sure the imagination issue
is clearly tied to severity. Entered
a discussion at WP about it, and it
seemed a very small number of members
had a clear link between visual imagination
and stimming.

On the other hand, when I'm shaking my leg,
as I am now, there's nothing. Just tied to
certain types of stimming, I guess.

Heyyyy......conducting an invisible orchestra isn't really stimming!!!

Not really.....

Right???

Oh.   :asthing:

anyway, I generally don't get visuals with this type of thing, some music just DEMANDS to be conducted.

it is well known that PMS Elle is evil.
I think you'd fit in a 12" or at least a 16" firework mortar
You win this thread because that's most unsettling to even think about.

I play some air keyboard now and then, if that counts.

I don't, but someone I know mentioned it
(does it while driving for christ's sakes), and
it just struck my head somehow as close in some
way.

I play air guitar when I am in my car listening to music sometimes, but that is only because I don't have an actual guitar in my hands.   I can kind of figure out parts to a song and then go into the house, pick up my guitar and hopefully play some of it.   So when I play air guitar it is me kind of figuring out parts to a song (well its different if I already know the song haha).  I have played drums, bass and keyboards in air too lol.   Well I can actually play those instruments, but I suck at drums imo.   My friend Matt constantly beats on his stomach (he is a drummer) to the beat of whatever song we are listening to.   He also does air guitar, but he plays guitar and bass himself so yeah.   Very easy for me to duplicate the right (rythym) hand compared to the left (fretboard) hand as far as air guitar goes.
:P   Internets are super serious.
