Give it time. If you've got Windows, it will slow down.

I've built it over a year ago and I've yet to experience any slowdown with Vista.... or any sort of problems in general. I must be one of the lucky ones. Had a spot of trouble with BSODs at the start though, but turned out my RAM was faulty since Ubuntu and OSX kept crying about it too.

Might upgrade it again, get a decent motherboard that has SLI and dual CPU sockets or something like that. Might even get a dedicated PSU for the graphics cards, if that's possible.

OSX? hacintosh? im very curious how well that works.

im an oldschool mac user and will never buy a intel mac, and im gonna need a laptop soon.

Then you're fucked dude! I used to be a hard core Amiga user. Yeah, can't hold onto that dream forever you know.

Meh, XP is fine. Vista gives me the shits. File copy problems and network file copy problems in Vista are just bullshit that shouldn't happen.

Any day now, Commodore's going to be back in business. :zoinks:

You'd need an intel Mac for that. G4s can't natively run XP.

Also probably a lot of software won't run on it now. Apple are well known for making things obsolete fast.

:duh: I'm not sure how loud that cry is anymore, more like a whisper now. Fuck, look what happened to the AmigaOne or whatever the fuck they called that shit. Seems to have gone the same way as the Amiga of old. Fuck that shit is cursed.

I find that's usually a RAM problem, and not the OS. I remember one time years ago, I kept having my files corrupting with all sorts of crazy errors popping up on occasion. It turned out the RAM I was using exceeded the laptop's motherboard capacity (2GB when limited to 1GB). Not saying that's the problem, but RAM issues in general can really cause some strange things to happen.

Existence actually has two broad meanings despite its apparent meaningless. The constant reconciliation of all its parts, and the conservation of any closed system as a whole.

Morality can be extrapolated from these meanings to make these two commandments of godless morality: 1). Be in harmony with one another and 2). Care for the environment.

I removed OSX from my PC as I've no actual need for it. It's a nice OS, but it has never clicked with me.

It's a PC, custom built.

OSX is pretty easy to install on it, but trying to get OSX fully functional can be a complete pain in the arse depending on what hardware you have. It's because OSX isn't supposed to be run on PCs, so there's basically no offical drivers for half of it. You'll have to get accustomed to the terminal and 3rd party driver kexts.

It's also technically illegal if you don't A) own a legal copy of OSX or B) Don't put an apple sticker onto the PC. B's far easier and it's a lovely loophole.

thanks shleed, why didnt you say that in the first place?

i own several copies of osx, but id still put the sticker on just to be a dick.

so theres no longer a hack to install in addition to the osx? i heard theres a chip that osx searches for before booting, and a hack is needed to imitate the chip.

where did you obtain the copy of osx? had it already been hacked possibly?

I assumed you already knew. :P

I downloaded mine from torrent. The actual installation doesn't bother checking for EFI (mac's version of BIOS, basically), but you'll need to either burn a modified version of the disc to include an EFI emulator or get one of the hackintosh distros off torrent otherwise OSX won't boot. The latter is far easier. If your PC has an intel processor (pentium 4 up), then you can go ahead and install without initial modification to the kernel. If it's an AMD processor, you'll have to modify/patch the kernel which will make OSX a bit more unstable.

Also, updating on either vanilla or patched kernel versions of OSX on your PC will more than likely make it stop booting. Apple's trying their best to not let their code run on their enemie's machines.  :zoinks:

That's kind of what I did, just got a PS3 for games and use the desktop and laptop for porn work.

I ran Ubuntu for a while and really liked it, but the software I need won't run on it.

I liked Ubuntu too. But my problem with Ubuntu was the fact the hard drive didn't spin down properly upon powering off, so over long term, it would have degraded the disk.
