It's surprising that so many, like me, are using such out of date stuff. I think I like that. We are getting the most out of what we have, instead of buying the newest flashy thing all the time.
Can't help drooling over GA's machine though.

I don't really care how up to date my system is as long as it can cope with the stuff I like to do- I only need a machine that allows me to surf the net, run IM, listen to music and write smut (and occasionally play the sims).  My only complaint was that it won't run the sims 2, but I just borrow Dunc's machine when I want to play that.

I agree, unfortunately, I want to get into video editing, graphics, and 3D modelling...Need a high-end machine for that.
Not to mention lots of gaming?  :)

But of course ;)
Crysis is going to rock!

That's perfectly understandable- you need a machine that will cope with the tasks you need to do on it.

Exactly! My interest is in stillls and rendering time, I have plenty of, since I have the dedicated machine that carrries out tasks when I'm not watching.

Even surfing on dial-up is not the much problem, because I have so many constannt distractions. My old shit works OK for noww.
Dial up is a nuisance though, given all the crap that people have to put in their websites these days.

When I was on Dial Up I could download 11gb per month, consistently.

Yes, it's frustrating, sometimes, but I use a flash blocker.
I do online banking, bill paying and transfers between accounts and investments and the security protocols take fucking forever! At least with Firefox the timeouts are salvageable, though.

I'll fix that when I get a job.

Athlon XP barton 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ (2.2GHz), Abit NF7-S motherboard, 2x256mb Corsair RAM @ 2-3-3-6, Powercolor 9600xt bravo (Radeon 128mb 9600xt VIVO), Seagate SATA 120G + 320G, erm.... Antec 1080AMG + Antec 430W 'trupower' PSU, Dust bunnies, fans with gay red leds and a really gay red cold-cathode which is actually pink. Runs WinXP pro SP2.

Was originally built as a gaming rig.
Now it is a porn hunter.

I built a killer rig for my bro earlier this year, forget what components exactly but it's good. Pentium 4million triggerhertz or something.

The pc sitting next to mine is a P3 1Ghz running Win98. Still remarkably reliable yet seldom used. Basically a backup.

My mother and sister have lappies, dad seems to have access to lappies from work and the gimp chained up in my dungeon has a Mac.

I have several scrap PCs in my room. I'm goin to make a suit of armour from the obsolete circuit boards.

This brain could do with some more dimethyltryptamine.

The latency sucks though if you're into online gaming.

... but support?  It works OK. You get the problems immediately, and take your time with their solutions.

Downloading music, it kicks ass!

I quite agree that it's awesome for those things.  I was just pointing out that it's not a perfect solution for every situation.

I've borrowed my dad finance's notebook which is a Pentium M 1.8 GHZ with 512 MB of RAM, a 40 GB hard drive and DVD ROM. The Graphics card is only 16 MB, means all I do is surf the internet and do word processing. I used to have a P4 2GHZ, with 512MB of RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, DVD Dual Layer Burner and Windows XP Home, but I gave that to my dad's finance's son.

I will get in the near future a old Duron, Celeron or Pentium 3 system with 256MB of RAM to run Debian Etch with KDE on it.

:anal:

I've never tried both at once.
I can just imagine that a greek
salad comes with good lube though.
