no, dear.  what you do is read the information, then present a cogent argument, and back it up with references.  it shows you've thought about it, and actually know what you're talking about.

have you never heard of p-u-b-l-i-c libraries?  you can go in them and read things, and it's free, you know.
Yes, I used to go to them. My local one lacks the depth of reading material I would like, so i choose the internet instead. You need a university library to get access to the more intresting stuff.

then go to the central one.  or try interlibrary loans.  ::)

honestly, for someone who's supposed to be going to university, you haven't a clue about reading round a subject, have you?

I have read a few books for maths, and for ICT i have certainly read around the subject. The problem is in an exam these days you get penalised for knowing too much, hence why I cut down my reading massively about 2 years ago when I learnt that lesson. The central library is quite a stretch to get to, and even that one doesnt have all the stuff I would like. I still read science magazines etc occasionally.

Reviving this thread to see what people think of nuclear power and plants now, it has been a few years. I must admit, I agree with what Hadron said about Wikipedia - it is a good basic source of information. By the time you get books, they are often out of date.

Anyway, nuclear power, etc. I think that if we are using up resources that aren't renewable, like oil and coal, the time will come when nuclear is all we have left apart from sources like solar and wind.

Still for it. Yes, Fukushima was bad, but coal kills more people, just more slowly.

If you want free journal access:

sci-hub.cc

This is a site where you can input the DOI/PMID, occasionally also searching text strings may work but DOI is  the one to go with. Input the DOI, and press the 'unlock' button, the site fakes an access token and smashes through paywalls.

Instant free access to all the journals you can eat. I LOVE that site. Fuckin mint as hell it is.

Best thing since that autistic chick porn vid with her covering herself in peanut butter and getting off on her sensory stimming w/ said peanut butter:P

No worries Renface, that site OWNS, and I've been spreading the details of it far and wide.

Lol, the creatrix of sci-hub, she's a kazakh student that figured out how to fake the access tokens and crack paywalls. So she created the site so anyone could do the same thing, and get free access, basically the site spoofs the credentials and makes it appear to journal sites that the article request is actually coming from a uni with a legit acct.

The publishing house Elsevier, a massive bunch of pigfucking moneygrubbing whorespawned cuntbiters in dire need of being extirpated, wiped from the face of the earth and the ground salted with 60Co so they may never come the fuck back, these Elsevier bastards tried to sue the creatrix of sci-hub and she just basically turned round and told them to go get fucked haha.

I'm old enough to remember the partial meltdown at 3 mile island...and from what I understand they still can't dismantle everything because of radiation dangers 37 years later.

I really not a fan of it. The issue for me is the fact that no one seems to have a good long term plan on how to deal with the nuclear waste that comes along with it.

Hell they can't even implement a good method of disposing CRT TV's right now.

A nuclear plant generates about 20 metric tons of waste a year, their new solution (other than just dumping it like before) in dealing with it in many places is long-term storage facilities. Long term is sometimes up to 100 years before it cools down enough to not pose a health risk, some of it can take up to 500 years.  :P

Not a fan of nuclear power. Because of the stuff IQ said.

With the skills there are, solar power, good batteries and windpower could be doing the job in a while, I think. If investing was bigger, it could be done soon.

Even if it gets done in small parts. My mother had savings, giving hardly any interest. So she got herself solar panels. The profit is way bigger than her money could have done in any investing way done at a bank. Even on cloudy days. And she will be secure to have power when shit hits the fan.

Switzerland does not give permits to build a house, if it is not at least energy neutral, preferably it should produce energy. It can be done.

I am all for nuclear power. Fusion, if  breakeven could be achieved would be best of course, but where fission is concerned, I'm all for breeder and fast breeder reactors, that create more fuel than they burn as a byproduct. Of course there is the conservation of energy principle to be observed, and there will be losses, but I am all for it.

And who do I want in charge of designing and overseeing the nuclear power plants?

Lestat Rett, that is who:D

Solar, Wind, low impact Hydro power (run of river).

I think the last one could show a lot of promise in some areas if they would only pursue it further.

They have potential but right now, they are nowhere near nuclear power. And most likely won't be. Fission is more powerful by magnitudes than anything else. Well, until they learn how to control fusion.
