What I was trying to do is dispel the ilussion that you need genious's to run nuclear power plants, an fable spread by the ecomentalist lobby.

Yes, even you could run one with the appropriate training, although I'd be nervous about living near it.

I lived not just by a nuke but just down the river from a nuclear sub base in Ct.    We used to watch the missile subs going by while eating in the college cafeteria and joking we were at ground zero in case of an attack or just fucked in case  of an accident

There's a nuclear sub base about 50km from where I live.

I know the subs from Ct stop over in the  UK  during their tours wonder if thats where they go?

I wish we still made nuke plants, but the coal and oil companies probably invest a lot in the "environmental" groups to keep them down.

I think we should ban all nuclear power.

I agree that nuclear power is the only form of clean and sustainable energy.  Waste management is a huge problem.  As far as safety, sure people near the plant would be fucked in the case of a meltdown.  But aren't we all fucked now anyway due to greenhouse gasses and pollutants from the coal and oil plants?  Nuclear power is much safer in those respects.

Well, it looks like this measure is going to pass. The question is, who do we hire to build a nuclear power plant??

oops, wrong thread. :emb:

with properly managed and engineered plants we wouldn't have meltdowns

waste can be stored in subduction zones, by the time it comes back up it will no longer be radioactive
