Yeah some people once they really get you, they figure out they don't care that much, find someone else and move on. End up just another in a long line of people that they hurt haha. I have experienced that.
You can find a girl that will treat you better Peter. They don't all do that type of stuff. Do not listen to her shit about how bad her current boyfriend is treating her, she just wants attention and a shoulder to cry on now. She is a user it seems. That seems to be what I meet most of the time. At least I can spot them better in person after a while now. Do not let that experience or any other scare you away from putting yourself out there at all.
