It depends how long you are prepared to wait for a decent copy of the movie. Personally I actually quite enjoy going to the pictures, you cant get the screen and sound at home.

i have a 3-metre screen in my garage. projecting a 70mm film strip on that from 5 metres is gorgeous. it's so sharp it's unbelievable.

Do you have a lux meter?  How many lumens is your lamp outputting?

I used an SMTPE measuring device that gave me around 16-17 foot Lamberts, which is just about perfect according to the SMTPE screen brightness recommendations. Can't be arsed to recalculate that to Lumens, though. Sorry.

I love going to the movies because movies are a lot better on the big screen IMO. It enrages me when people are rude, but luckily it doesn't happen TOO often. It's good to go at odd times when you know a lot of people won't be there. After 9 on a weeknight is usually pretty good.
